What We Do
We work towards achieving best practice and contribute to policies and practices through stakeholder engagement and critical working parties. Through our work we promote Scotland as an international leader in research and innovation in the field of offender risk assessment and risk management.
We accredit assessors to undertake risk assessments, under a Risk Assessment Order, for the Court's consideration of imposing an Order for Lifelong Restriction and we have a statutory obligation for the RMA to approve all Risk Management Plans (RMPs) prepared for offenders subject to an Order for Lifelong Restriction. RMA accreditation of Assessors and Manners (methodologies) ensure appropriate standards are established and recognised.
The support we offer involves advice and training to those who work directly in the fields of risk assessment and those responsible for the risk management plan implementation.
We use our research and innovative skills to develop appropriate resources to ensure a consistent best practice approach. These include RMA’s Standards and Guidelines, The Risk Assessment Tools Evaluation Directory (RATED), and evidence of best practice through research, events, training and seminars.
