Partnership Working
The RMA cannot achieve its objectives in isolation; partnership working is critical to promote continuous improvement in this field. The RMA works with agencies, organisations and individuals within the Scottish criminal justice system to assist them in the identification and effective management of high risk offenders.
Risk can never be eliminated but the RMA exercises its functions to promote effective assessment and management of risk.
Listed below are the partners and agencies that form these critical partnerships with the RMA to achieve its objectives.
- Scottish Government
- Key Agencies responsible for the management of offenders (see below)
- Community Justice Authorities (eight in Scotland)
- Accredited Assessors
- Scottish Court Service
- Parole Board
- Inspection Agencies (SWIA, HMIC, HMIP)
- Universities
- Professional Bodies
- International Research Community
Key Agencies have been defined as the Scottish Police Forces, prison service, local authorities (social work) and the NHS who work collaboratively under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangement MAPPA (as required by the Management of Offenders Act 2005).
Our partnership working is critical to our success. The following diagram shows how our work contributes to partnership working to provide best practice towards our shared outcome, ie the management of risk of harm to local communities which directly contributes to the Government's national objective of a safer and stronger Scotland.
