External Research Submissions
The purpose of this section is to inform practitioners and researchers of new/ongoing external research projects that relate to offender risk assessment and management. Given the financial constraints that affect all budget holders the purpose is to avoid duplication of work and to encourage research cooperation.

Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP) added 03/10/2011
Quite recently, a new conceptual model and accompanying assessment instrument were developed to capture the construct of psychopathy across all domains of human functioning. The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP; Cooke, Hart, Logan, & Michie, 2004) was constructed using the lexical approach, which entails conceptualising a model around traits occurring in natural language. The CAPP structures the psychopathy construct in terms of personality, instead of mixing personality with antisocial behaviour (Kreis, Cooke, Michie, Hoff, & Logan, in press). This lack of overlap with antisocial behaviour could contribute significantly to the knowledge about the aetiology of psychopathy. The model is comprehensive and clinically driven, describing the full range of symptoms across the six domains of Attachment, Behaviour, Cognition, Dominance, Emotion, and Self. The domains are further divided into 33 symptoms, each defined by a number of trait descriptors (Kreis et al., in press). Although the validation process is still ongoing, results from several international research projects using adult subjects, are promising. Thus far, the CAPP has been shown to have good content validity, with most symptoms rated as highly representative and having both high sensitivity and specificity (Kreis et al., in press). However, further validation in juvenile populations is needed.
Content validity of the CAPP in juvenile samples: Prototypicality of Personality Characteristics in Juveniles with Psychopathic-like Traits
Maartje Clercx, as part of her master's thesis research is conducting an online survey among international forensic psychology/psychiatry experts - forensic nurses, forensic psychologists and psychiatrists, researchers and PhD students specializing in juvenile forensic psychology, teachers, master students etc. may be interested in participating.
The survey consists of questions about the prototypicality of personality characteristics in juveniles with psychopathic-like traits. The survey is completely anonymous. Among participants, 3 dinner cheques with a value of €50 / $50 / ?50 will be allotted. It will take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete the survey. Maartje needs as many participants as possible, so please be so kind as to forward this link to your colleagues.

AIM2 and Good Lives
A longitudinal evaluation of the ‘Good Lives’ approach – on behalf of the G-Map organisation. Linda Hutton is undertaking a national evaluation of AIM2, a youth assessment tool, and the Good Lives programme. Beginning in the early months of 2010 the research will contribute to work with children and young people displaying sexually harmful and/or offending behaviours. Enquiries to:
