Accreditation Processes

The RMA strives to ensure consistent practices in risk assessment and risk management across Scotland. In the context of the Risk Assessment Order, we ensure that risk assessment practices adhere to relevant legislation and provide a robust and fair treatment of offenders’ cases. This is particularly important given the human rights and resource implications associated with the Order for Lifelong Restriction. To achieve this, we ensure that those who carry out risk assessments in this context are accredited by us through a stringent process.

In addition to the accreditation of persons, the RMA also accredits manners of risk assessment and risk management. "Manners"' is a legal term for the methodologies that are followed in the processes of risk assessment and management.  Accreditation of such manners supports our goal of promoting best practice in these areas.
